A FLORIDA GIRL WHO MARRIED A MIDWESTERN BOY
I was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, and married a Kankakee, Illinois native. We have two children, now adults, and our family of four has called a variety of landscapes “home” over the years, each locale leaving us better than before. Our first true empty-nest experience was a 950 square foot apartment in downtown Indianapolis, so I've been to school on downsizing. I’m motivated by mission, which is why my professional life has focused on project management for nonprofits. I hesitate to call running a hobby, yet find myself registering for 5K races with some regularity!
The first time I met Lynn we were attending a new member class for Junior League. I instantly enjoyed her company, appreciating her sharp wit. She made me laugh. And when I discovered she had two young children at home, I was in awe. She was living life with such poise and purpose. I was a first-time mother of a baby boy who maybe slept five consecutive hours at night. Overwhelmed by loneliness and wrestling with incompetence, it’s entirely possible that I whispered a quiet prayer, “Please let her be my friend.” Thirty years later, Lynn’s friendship continues to be a source of joy, wisdom, laughter, comfort, and strength in my life.
